| Our Training Programmes LBMS training days place an equal emphasis on behaviour de-escalation and diffusion strategies in partnership with appropriate physical responses to challenging behaviour. Our programmes clearly set out the legal and statutory requirements of working in this area. The participants are required to learn the legal criteria of intervention. Throughout the training a ‘duty of care’ for the clients and colleagues is emphasised. LBMS ensures participants understand that the techniques should be used in proportion to the physical challenge they encounter and that all staff must exercise minimum force. Our legal and Statutory Guidelines Care homes with adult placements-GSCC Code of Practice for Social Care Workers -The Children Act -The Mental Health Act -The Commission for Social Care Inspection, Induction and Foundation standards for all staff. -NICE Guidelines for short term management of disturbed/violent behaviour -DFES Guidelines (July 2002) –Guidance on the use of restrictive physical interventions for staff working with children/adults who display extreme behaviour in association with learning disability and/or autistic disorders. -DFES Guidelines (July 2003) –The guidance on the use of restrictive physical interventions for special schools for pupils with severe behaviour difficulties -Section 550a of the 1996 Education Act The outcome of our training is that all candidates learn a toolbox of strategies and techniques to assist them in managing challenging behaviour. They can approach their work environment with greater confidence and effectiveness when dealing with challenging behaviour. All candidates who pass the training are certificated to use the strategies and techniques for a year. |
